Even after what seems like forever, Princess Diana resides in our hearts like no other. The lady’s compassion and benevolent spirit made sure she was loved throughout her lifetime and would be remembered in kind words even decades after her passing. That is why, on her recent birth anniversary, everyone was left super emotional as her son Prince Harry delivered a heartfelt speech for the Diana Award National Youth Mentoring Summit at The Banking Hall in London on Tuesday. The prestigious event was held one day after what would have been Princess Diana’s 58th birthday and was attended by hundreds of people who held Diana in high regard.
During the course of the event, Prince Harry took center stage to deliver the speech, most of which revolved around elucidating the importance of being a good role model, which indubitably his mother was. The content of the speech also urged people to lead their lives with kindness and to treat every other being with compassion.
“My mother, Princess Diana, was a role model to so many, without realising the impact she would have on so many lives. You don’t have to be a princess or a public figure to be a role model. In fact, it’s equally valuable if you’re not because it’s more relatable. Being a role model and mentor can help heal the wounds of your own past and create a better future for someone else.”
He also shared how it may be hard to understand for some, but you never know when someone could be looking up to you and you have to do right by them.
“The person who may be sitting here today that doesn’t realise that someone looks up to them, that – for that person – you inspire them to be kinder, better, greater, more successful, more impactful.”
Moving on, he also shared how he now understands the impact of being a good role model after being a father and wants to be one for his baby boy, Archie. Aw, the feels!
“Perhaps it’s the newfound clarity I have as a father, knowing that my son will always be watching what I do, mimicking my behavior, one day maybe even following in my footsteps. But it’s not just my role as a father that shows me that; it’s in the people I see every day that don’t realize how inspirational they are to those watching.”
Surely, Diana would’ve been extremely proud of Prince Harry at this moment, had she been here today!
