Things are looking up for Ahad Raza Mir in all aspects. The actor earlier made news by announcing his engagement to co-star Sajal Aly and is now on his way to make it big with his work as well as he has recently bagged a nomination at Betty Mitchell Awards for his play Hamlet: A Ghost Story, which he had performed in Canada in April.

Playing the titular character in the play, and gaining widespread critical acclaim, Mir has now bagged a spot in the ‘Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama’ category that honors excellence in Calgary’s Professional Theatre Community. Talking about hitting all the right buttons!

In a conversation with InStep, the actor expressed how honorable he felt to have represented Pakistan on an international level, and to have received monumental appreciation for his performance.

“It feels amazing; the biggest thing is that it’s like pride for the country. It is a regional award; hundreds of shows took place in the entire province there. For me, it is a big deal because I started my career there (Canada) and I have been watching these people get these awards for many years, hoping that it would happen to me too, one day. Therefore, bagging a nomination is a big success, not just for people residing in Pakistan but for Pakistanis abroad.”

Seeing as how Hamlet has become a major phenomenon in Canada, a lot of fans want to witness Mir in action on stage and see him perform it in Pakistan. But it seems like it may not be as easy after all. “I want to bring it to Pakistan but the logistics are a little complicated,” he said, mentioning the possibility of the play coming to Dubai sometime in the future.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 24 this year, and we will keep our fingers crossed for Mir’s win.

Meanwhile, let us know how you feel about Mir’s international recognition? Do you feel like he should bring Hamlet to Pakistan? Go off in the comments!
