If I could be only half the person that she is. If i had even half of her strength, preseverance and will. If i had even half her discipline… I would be somewhere else, something else…. but what I am is lucky, lucky to have her as my mother, my father, my everything… and what I will always be, is grateful, grateful to have been born to her, and no other….grateful for all those nights she stayed awake fanning me and my brother (when we were young and there were power outages and no generators) and still reached her job every morning punctually after dropping us to school, grateful for all the music/art and dance that I was surrounded with while growing up, grateful for the best education anyone could get, grateful for the values she instilled in me since childhood, grateful for all her sacrifices and excruciating years of hard work, just to give us a safe, comfortable home….and so much more… She was a teacher all her life and would make me read out aloud every day for an hour, I used to hate it then but how it helped me be the debater, Vj, anchor, host, moderator and actor that I eventually became… she taught me to never depend on anyone, to be self reliant and self sufficient, to always stand my ground, to be prepared for the worst and always save up for a rainy day (though that’s something I struggle with), to never shy away from hard work and to never take shortcuts, to never get bogged down by what people said(another thing I’m still struggling with) to never give up even when everything was going against you and to hold my head up with dignity and carry on… Today, while I may not be half the person she is, I’m grateful for where I am and who I am, because of this beautiful woman: my Ammi, my rock, my pillar of strength, my weakness, my life…. I hope that’s something she can be proud of…❤️👩‍👧‍👦🏆 #mothersday #myammi #heavenbeneathherfeet . . Image 1: Ammi, right out of university, before she got married. . .
