Karan Johar’s upcoming star-studded venture, Kalank, has been making waves for all the right reasons. With an ensemble cast of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit, and Sanjay Dutt, the film is all geared up to set benchmarks for all blockbusters of 2019.

Last week, the news around Bhatt taking inspiration for her character from Sanam Saeed’s character in Zindagi Gulzar Hai was making rounds all over social media. This time, it is Dutt who is revealing his emotional connection with Pakistan through the film, as reported by India Today.

The actor revealed that his character, Balraj, has deeply hidden associations with his father and his actual roots in Pakistan. According to Dutt, he took upon the role because the name was that of his father’s and that the film is set in the pre-partition era, and that is when his father migrated from Pakistan to India.

“During the shoot of Gumrah, Yash uncle had briefly mentioned about the story. Dharma Productions is like family; so when Karan approached me with the film, I had to do it,” he shared. “It is also a coincidence that my character is named Balraj, which is my father’s [Sunil Dutt] real name. He too came from Pakistan during Partition, so it has an emotional connect.”

Moving on, the actor also shed light on reuniting with Dixit after what seems like forever. Apparently, the experience turned out to be terrific in all aspects.

“It was great to work with her again. I was a little nervous but she made things easy. She’s got terrific command as an actor. We spoke about our kids. In fact, I made my children [Shahraan and Iqra] meet her when they dropped by on the sets.”

With that said, keep an eye out for the film as it releases on April 17 in India. It is highly unlikely that the film will get screened here, but we will get enough scoop based on the reviews!
