The fine folks at Disney just gave us a last-minute holiday surprise by releasing the first trailer for its hotly anticipated live-action remake of the 1994 animated classic, The Lion King. The first trailer for Disney’s The Lion King has sent fans into a frenzy.
The only giveaway was a Thanksgiving Day Instagram post by actor J.D. McCrary, who voices Simba in the film.
The Lion King actor Donald Glover praised the direction from Jon Favreau and stated his pride at being able to participate in the movie.
“It’s really been fun and Jon Favreau is like the most fun director to work with,” Glover said. “He’s on Lion King. He’s just been so much fun. I feel like, more and more because my son really likes that movie. For him, it feels like a gift for him.”
In the trailer, we can see what look like the opening moments of the movie, in which Rafiki presents a young Simba to the animals of the Pride Lands. All the while, James Earl Jones’ narration as Mufasa plays while the original film’s opening track, “Circle of Life,” can be heard in the background.
The Lion King hits theaters July 19, 2019, 25 years after the original animated feature’s release.
