Pakistan batsman reached his 100 off 56 balls to set up a six-wicket win in the capital.
Sohail Akhtar smashed a tremendous century to power Lahore Qalandars to a six-wicket win over Yorkshire Vikings in the Abu Dhabi T20 at Zayed Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Sohail won the toss and elected to field first. “That was the plan,” added Sohail.
While chasing a target of 185, Lahore Qalandars’ opener Sohail Akhtar played a captain’s knock hitting 100 off 56 balls.
Although playing his first game in Abu Dhabi, the Qalandars captain battled through cramps in energy-sapping conditions to set up his team’s triumph.
Yorkshire scored 184-5 while batting first. Harry Brook scored 37 off 26 and shared a 57-run stand for the second wicket with Adam Lyth, who scored 32.
Besides that, Sohail reached his century off 54 balls but hit the next straight to the mid-off fielder to leave his side needing 20 to win off 12 balls, which Phil Salt (37) and Abdul Razzaq (5) scored.
“We came here with a young team as most of our players are on national duty (against Australia),” said Sohail after his match-winning performance. As a senior player, I had a big role to lead from the front and I’m happy I was able to do that for my team.”
“We anticipated the dew to be more when you bat second but it was still a very close and exciting game. It was important for us to win the first game in this format and now looking forward to the next against Hobart.” Sohail stated.
Lahore Qalandars will take on Hobart Hurricanes today. The match is scheduled to kick off at 4 PM PST.
